Dimitris Darzentas (1915-1997) was born and lived most of his life in Athens, Greece. His father was from Santorini and he always maintained great affection for the island, painting it from many angles and on many occasions and devoted several one man exhibitions to paintings of the island (for instance in 1977 and 1986).
He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Konstantine Parthenis and graduated with distinction in 1947, and at his first one man exhibition in 1952 the critics were loud in their praise of his landscapes and in particular his tempuras.
He held numerous one man exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions, as well having his paintings accepted for panhellenic exhibitions and obtaining honourable mentions.
His work has been exhibited widely in Greece, and as well in Cyprus, Germany and the United States. Numerous paintings of his are held in private and public collections. Most recently (2007) some of his work was for sale by auction at Sotheby’s in London.
